Teacher role play- learning in a fun way.

Sorry I have been gone for a while I have been so busy finishing my PGCE I am pleased to say it is now completed!!!

It seems very appropriate that today's blog post is all about Boo playing teachers.   Ever since she started back at nursery this term she loves playing teachers.  I have lost count how many times I have ended up on the time out spot!! I decided to assist with this new found interest by providing a few resources that she could use to make it more interesting.

The great thing is that Boo is learning at the same time without realising it.  She spends her time teaching me my numbers and letter sounds on occasions I pretend to get it wrong so that gives her the opportunity to correct me. This proves to me that she understands.

Inside the teachers box is

• Resources from Twinkl  teacher role play pack letter formation worksheets
• RML Phonics cards- my Dad got these from the charity shop at a great price bless him! 
• Buttons to count 
• White board markers as all the sheets are laminated and can be reused 
• Pen 
• An old filo fax I do not use this now and Boo loves writing in it 
• Post it notes 
• Medal- for the student who is best behaved 

I am sure that Boo will add more items to this as we use it.

Imaginative play the creation of our fancy dress box

Just recently all of us set to work organising Little Boos toys and thanks to this she now has a wonderful dress up and dollies box. The great thing is is that I feel this will be used differently every time we play.
Today Little Boo wanted to be a princess hence the Cinderella outfit, she later styled up with a hat pretending to be a cowboy!

Inside our dress up box is an array of items including some of my old make up I had which I do not use. Little Boo loves playing with make up. The agreement is that the make up only goes on her dolls we have some great dolls for this activity which can just be wiped clean and they were really cheap. I do not mind Little Boo playing with make up, I realise some parents may be concerned. However, I see playing with make up as another way Little Boo copies me just like when she cares for her dolls like I care for her.

After a while the dolls and Little Boo were tired so Little Boo took it upon herself to tell me that they needed her pillow and cover. Then the dolls were tucked in to sleep.

The dress up clothes that I have for Little Boo have mainly been passed down or brought when on sale. We have made up our own fairy costume using an old top a £1 tutu and wings the rainstick we made is now a wand! How's that for imagination :)

Imaginative Play

Ever since Little Boo went to the hospital for an operation she has become really interested in playing doctors and nurses. She woke up and wanted to play therefore her bedroom was transformed into a hospital.  We set up a little waiting room with all the toys who needed to go to hospital.

There was also a reception where Little Boo or dolly were answering calls.
















Then there was the nurses room where she treated all the patients. One of them apparently needed a bandage (made from one of daddy's old shirts)












This type of play is amazing for developing language and communication skills. Little Boo practised talking on the telephone and also her questions as she started asking the toys what was wrong with them. All the time she was verbalising what she was doing " I am giving dolly medicine because she is poorly". It is wonderful as all this comes naturally and the more we play the more she says.
